IWWF E&A (Europe & Africa) Youth (U17) Water Ski Championship

Excellent performance from the Cypriot Athletes at the European Water Ski Championship at Recetto, Italy 2024.

Impressive performances and excellent results were recorded by the participation of the Cyprus Water Ski Federation (KOTHASKI) in the European Water Ski Championships under 17 years old, which were held in Recetto, Italy from 21 to 25 August 2024. The athletes Andreas Constantinou, Ioannis Athinakis, and Andreas Tofas participated in the mission, accompanied by the Federal coach Srdjan Dragic.

Our three athletes, who had a strong presence in the Slalom finals, proved once again that Cyprus can worthily compete at an international level with the great powers of the sport, and at the same time highlighted the continuous progress of the sport in Cyprus.

The most important success was recorded by 15-year-old Andreas Constantinou, who with an excellent performance in the final of the boys under 17 years old, took the 7th place with a performance of 2.50/58/11.25 and collecting 872.55 points. Constantinou, who last year was the winner of the European Championships in the under 14 category, competed for the first time in a major event, with a boat speed of 58 Km (instead of the 55Km that applies to the younger ages) demonstrating adaptation to the new category in a very short time. In fact, he was one of the few competitors who is 15 years old, since the race concerns an age category of 17 years old.

In the same event, 17-year-old Ioannis Athinakis took 24th place with a performance of 2.00/58/12.00 scoring 745.10 points, while 15-year-old Andreas Tofas ranked 27th with a score of 1.00/58/12.00 and scored 725.49 points. 42 athletes participated in the event.

Ioannis Athinakis also competed in Triathlon (Slalom Jump, Figures). In Tricks he scored 3480 (overall 335.26) and ranked 13th among 32 athletes and in the Jump with 32.9m. (overall 376.09) and ranked 19th among 24 athletes.

The scores collected by our three athletes raised Cyprus in the Team Championship to the 11th place, among 21 countries that participated at the event.

The Cyprus Water Ski Federation congratulates its athletes on their impressive performance and notes that the participation of our athletes in this top event is a testament to their dedication and hard work, while at the same time demonstrating the quality work done by Kothaski and its Federal Coach Srdjan Dragic.

Our athletes continue to develop and bring success to our island, and the Federation will continue to support them with the aim of continuous improvement and distinction at an international level.
